UTRGV & City Of Brownsville Partner To Train Middle Managers

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS– UTRGV and the City of Brownsville (COB) are partnering to provide 35 COB middle managers the Professional Development for Middle Management Program conducted by UTRGV Professional Development and Workforce Development.

The 11-week comprehensive training covers key concepts such as:

  • Emotional intelligence.
  • Self-management.
  • Managing conflict.
  • Citizen’s value with an understanding of professional
  • Presentation skills.

The program leverages a pedagogy that will enable learners to apply skills in their day-to-day work.

“We are eager to partner with the City of Brownsville for the Professional Development for Managers Program,” said Blanca Davila, UTRGV PEWD director. “The city’s Organizational Development & Human Resources department understands the value of training and providing useful, innovative tools to their managers as they lead teams and departments that serve the city.”

Key concepts of the Professional Development for Managers Program are designed to equip learners with practical tools.

The program consists of 11 hours of instruction and four hours of a final presentation. Participants will meet every other week for two hours.

Sessions, which began April 16, will be at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization and on the UTRGV Brownsville Campus.

After completing the program successfully, participants will get a certificate of completion issued jointly by the COB and the UTRGV PEWD.

“This program aims to elevate managerial skills and leadership capabilities to our middle management leaders who are vital in fostering organizational excellence and driving growth in our city,” said Perla Cepeda, the city’s director of Organizational Development and Human Resources. “The development investment is a testament to our ONE City Culture, a collaborative relationship with UTRGV PEWD and our commitment to our valuable employees in their personal and professional development.”
