The PossAble Dream Adult High School Celebrates First Graduate: Stephanie Lynn Lucio

San Juan native earns high school diploma in four weeks, now working on Medical Billing & Coding Certificate

Pharr, Texas – The PossAble Dream Adult High School is celebrating its first-ever graduate, Stephanie Lynn Lucio, marking a milestone for the Texas Education Agency (TEA)-authorized school designed for adults 18-50 years of age to complete their high school diploma and prepare them for in-demand careers.

Lucio left school at age 16 to support and care for her mother and brothers, but found a path back to graduation through The PossAble Dream Adult High School. After enrolling, she worked closely with her counselor to develop a plan of action, recover needed credits and graduate in only four weeks. She is now continuing her education tuition-free through The PossAble Dream’s Medical Billing & Coding career pathway.

“I am grateful for all the challenges that I have experienced,” Lucio said. “If it were not for those challenges, I would not be able to be where I am today. I am excited to begin my new journey through the Medical Billing & Coding pathway. I love to help. I know my life was hard, but others may have had it harder. I want to do my part to help in any way.”

Lucio said she did not waste time once she learned about the opportunity and benefited from the support and structure the staff offered.

“I wanted it, so I put my mind to it” she said. “I am so grateful to my student success coach, teachers, counselor and the superintendent for helping me.”

Reflecting on the moment she learned she had finished high school, Lucio said she could not believe it.

“When I first found out that I finished this quickly, I felt so excited and so happy,” she said. “I never expected this. If I can do it, anyone can. It is never too late. Never give up. While you have life, you still have hope.”

Lucio first connected with The PossAble Dream Adult High School after seeing the opportunity on Facebook. Her counselor built a targeted plan that honored credits she had previously earned and focused only on what remained.

“We review your transcript and give you credit for the work you’ve already done,” said Jovanna Hernandez, Counselor at The PossAble Dream Adult High School. “If you didn’t pass a class, you can recover those credits at your own pace. For adults who left school close to graduating, that often means you can finish quickly. When you enroll, we build a clear, step-by-step plan to guide you to graduation.”

Superintendent Darcia Cuellar said Lucio’s accomplishment illustrates the school’s mission in action.

“Stephanie is an example of someone who was very close to completing and, with the right structure and support, finished high school and immediately moved into preparing for a high-wage, in-demand career,” Cuellar said. “Her success shows what is possible when we meet adult learners where they are, recognize the work they’ve already done and surround them with caring professionals who guide them to the finish line and into a career pathway.”
