Texas Department Of Transportation And The Unified Transportation Program 2026 Project Funding In Cameron County

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) utilizes the Unified Transportation Program (UTP) as a 10-year plan to guide and prioritize projects for construction, development, and project selection processes for state funding in modal areas.

Cameron County officials along with the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA) are pleased to announce the following projects were included in the 2026 Unified Transportation Program’s 10-year funding plan for Cameron County:

• U.S. 77 Projects: $1.3 Billion

▪ Includes Projects in Cameron County, Kennedy County, and Corpus Christi District

• East Loop Project: $176.5 Million
• SH 4 to Boca Chica Beach – 4 Lane Expansion Project: $192 Million
• FM 509 Extension – Harlingen Area $37.4 Million • FM 1847 San Benito $7 Million • SH 107 Santa Rosa – $15 Million
• U.S. 281/Military Highway Expansion $50.8 Million
• FM 3248 Brownsville $38 Million

“Thanks to the leadership of Governor Abbott, Texas Transportation Commission Member Alex Meade, TxDOT Administration and our District Office, the total funding for Cameron County, including the U.S. 77 projects in the TxDOT’s 2026 UTP draft is approximately $1.8 Billion. In 2019, the leadership of the Rio Grande Valley came together and agreed to merge the three MPO’s in the Rio Grande Valley into one regional MPO. The funding for these much-needed projects are the fruits of having one regional MPO,” stated Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr.

Treviño further stated, “The submitted projects are vital for our community and will greatly assist with the flow of traffic, commute time, promote public safety, and maintain continuity of the Texas State Highway System. The listing of projects includes multi-jurisdictional integration and is proposed for the next 10 years to improve the quality of life of our residents.”
