McAllen’s Veterans War Memorial Committee to Host Memorial Day Ceremony

“Honor and Remember the brave U.S. military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation” theme of ceremony in honor of the 1.4 million who gave their lives in defense of the United States of America

McAllen, Texas – The City of McAllen invites the community to come together in solemn remembrance at the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the McAllen Performing Arts Center, 801 Convention Ctr. Blvd..

The ceremony, organized by the City of McAllen Veterans War Memorial Committee, will feature a heartfelt tribute to U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service to the country.

Participants include McAllen District 2 Commissioner Joaquin “J.J.” Zamora, the McAllen City Commission, and ceremonial honors by the McAllen Fire Department Honor Guard and Pipe & Drum Corps, the McAllen Police Department Honor Guard, and Officer Daniel Garcia, who will serve as the event’s bugler. Patriotic musical selections will be performed by the McAllen Wind Ensemble.

Flag raising duties will be carried out by Boy Scouts of America Troops 1065, 83, 73, Scouts Venture Crews 1065, 272, and the Texas National Guard, accompanied by youth participants from McAllen Parks & Recreation and Nikki Rowe High School.

Special speakers include Jesse Rodriguez, Cheyanne Zink, and Jan Hartzog, all members or supporters of the Veterans War Memorial Committee. The keynote address will be delivered by Dr. Rene Gutierrez, Superintendent of McAllen I.S.D.

“On Memorial Day, we remember those brave heroes who died in service to our great nation,” said Mayor Javier Villalobos. “We are proud that our Texas Veterans War Memorial has the names of those soldiers from McAllen, the Rio Grande Valley, and throughout South Texas inscribed here forever, for us to honor and thank them.”

The public is encouraged to attend and pay tribute to the fallen service members whose sacrifices have preserved our freedoms.
