Harris Named Southland Conference Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

The Southland Conference (SLC) announced on Wednesday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) track & field junior Nayla Harris has been named the SLC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week.

Harris won the women’s 60-meter dash at the Stan Scott Invite on Friday, defeating competitors from Texas Tech, Ohio State and UCF. She won her preliminary heat en route to setting the track on fire with an altitude-adjusted time of 7.28 (unadjusted 7.26) in the final.

With the performance, Harris set a program and personal record, breaking her own program record set two weeks prior at the indoor season opener. Harris remained No. 1 in the Southland Conference and moved up to T-21st in the nation with the time clocked last weekend. She is fourth in the South Central Region.

Harris also ran a personal best of 25.15 in the 200-meter dash and marked a season-best 5.49 meters in long jump while jumping in between three rounds of the 60 at the meet.

Harris and the Vaqueros will be back in action Feb. 14-15 at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock.
