Fire Prevention Week Proclaimed for October 6-12
The Mission City Council has officially proclaimed October 6-12, 2024, as Fire Prevention Week, embracing the vital theme, “Smoke Alarms, Make Them Work For You.” This annual event highlights the crucial role smoke alarms play in saving lives and underscores the importance of preparing and practicing home fire escape plans.
The proclamation was proudly accepted by Fire Chief Adrian Garcia, alongside members of the Mission Fire Department, and special guest “Sparky,” the beloved fire safety mascot. This initiative aims to raise awareness and empower residents to take proactive steps in ensuring their homes are equipped with functioning smoke alarms and fire escape plans.
To kick off the week, the Mission Fire Department will host a Fire Prevention Week Open House on Friday, October 4, from 6 PM to 8 PM at Leo Peña Placita Park. This event promises to be an exciting and educational evening for the whole community. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn valuable fire safety tips, meet the brave Mission Firefighters, and engage in interactive demonstrations designed to teach essential fire prevention techniques.
Fire Prevention Week serves as a reminder that fire safety starts at home, and with the right tools and knowledge, every family can be better prepared for emergencies. We encourage all residents to join us at the Open House and take part in this important initiative.
Together, let’s ensure that “Smoke Alarms, Make Them Work For You” is more than just a theme—it’s a life-saving habit!
