Edinburg Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child

EDINBURG – A Hidalgo County jury found Jorge Alberto Aguilar Garcia, 44, of Edinburg, Texas, guilty of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, announced Hidalgo County District Attorney Toribio “Terry” Palacios.

The jury returned its verdict on April 25, 2025, and Aguilar Garcia was sentenced by the 430th District Court of Hidalgo County on May 27, 2025.

The case was initiated on September 8, 2021, when the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched in reference to an indecency with a child outcry involving Aguilar Garcia and a minor child. The ensuing investigation revealed that Garcia had sexually abused a 9-year-old minor. As a result of these details, the investigation was reclassified as an aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony.

Throughout the jury trial, evidence and testimony showed that the minor was forensically interviewed and medically evaluated to ensure her well-being. Further, the evidence demonstrated the disturbing manner in which Aguilar Garcia, while using a fake name every time he contacted the minor and the minor’s family, sexually abused the 9-year-old child. Aguilar Garcia was sentenced to serve 35 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child and will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

The jury trial was heard by the Honorable Judge Orlando J. Esquivel of the 430th District Court of Hidalgo County.

“This defendant engaged in horrific conduct, and the lengthy sentence he received will help make our community a safer place while he is locked up,” said Palacios.

The case was prosecuted by Special Crimes Assistant District Attorney Ricardo Hernandez.
