City of McAllen Risk Management Department Leads Lifesaving AED Initiative

$150,000 investment includes 47 devices and employee CPR Training
The City of McAllen Risk Management Department is spearheading a comprehensive emergency preparedness initiative by installing 47 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across city facilities and training employees in CPR and AED use. This initiative represents a $150,000 investment in public safety, underscoring McAllen’s commitment to protecting the health and well-being of employees, residents, and visitors.
“The safety of our employees and the community is at the heart of everything we do,” said Yolanda Perez, Risk Management Director for the City of McAllen. “This initiative not only provides essential lifesaving equipment but also empowers our workforce with the knowledge and skills to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.”
The AED devices will be strategically installed in high-traffic city buildings such as McAllen City Hall, McAllen Development Center, and McAllen Public Library, as well as in various other public facilities. The Risk Management Department is partnering with certified trainers to ensure that city employees across all departments receive comprehensive CPR and AED training.
“Public safety is always a top priority for the City of McAllen,” said McAllen City Manager Isaac J. Tawil. “By equipping our facilities with AEDs and providing CPR training, we are taking proactive steps to save lives in critical situations.”
According to the American Heart Association, immediate CPR and defibrillation can double or triple the chances of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest. With the placement of AEDs and proper employee training, McAllen is enhancing its emergency response capabilities and fostering a safer community.
The City of McAllen encourages residents to consider CPR training and become familiar with AED usage, as bystander intervention is often the key to saving lives.
