Brownsville Seeks Community Input on Future Parks and Recreation

With over 1,000 acres of parkland, 44 parks, more than 47 miles of trails, and five major community centers, Brownsville’s Parks and Recreation system plays a vital role in promoting health, wellness, and community connection. Now, the City is inviting residents to be part of shaping its next chapter.
As part of its Parks, Health, and Recreation Master Plan, the City of Brownsville has launched a community-wide online survey to gather ideas, input, and feedback directly from the people who use these spaces most.
“This Master Plan is an important investment in the future of our community,” said City Manager Helen Ramirez, ICMA-CM, AICP. “It will ensure our facilities continue to welcome residents, cater to the evolving needs of our growing population, and further enhance the overall quality of life in Brownsville.”
City leaders say the survey is a key tool to understand how residents use parks, what facilities or programs they’d like to see more of, and what challenges—like access or amenities—might prevent people from visiting.
“We encourage everyone to participate,” said Ramirez. “Your feedback is crucial, and as a thank you, anyone who completes the survey will be entered into a drawing to win a PlayStation 5!”
The City is seeking responses from a wide range of voices—including residents, business partners, community leaders, and even visitors—to build a Master Plan that reflects real needs and priorities. The survey is completely anonymous, though residents are asked to submit only one response per person to ensure fairness and accuracy.
Feedback from the survey will help guide decisions about future park improvements, programming, and accessibility. City leaders hope to use the results to transform recreational spaces into even more vibrant hubs where families can thrive, stay active, and connect with nature and one another.
