Second round of free laptops with internet access to be given to approximately 400 eligible (already confirmed through previously held registration eventsCameron County residents who registered for one through non-profit organization, Compudopt. This effort was the result of a collaborative partnership between Compudopt, DHR Health, the Health Sciences Institute at Renaissance, and the Proyecto Juan Diego Community Center in Brownsville.

The recipients have already been confirmed through a previosuly held registration event.

The event will take place on April 27th from 4 pm to 6 pm at DHR Health Brownsville Hospital (4750 Frontage Road, Brownsville, Texas).

The goal of the Compudopt’s program is to ensure that households in Cameron County without a working computer or laptop have the tools they need to stay connected and thrive in today’s technology-driven world. Each device provided through Compudopt’s initiative was completely free and includes two years of free tech support. A total of 400 laptops were awarded on a lottery basis, with one device per household, and are permanently owned by the recipient, with no tracking by serial numbers. For those who are not selected in the initial round, Compudopt will retain the registration list and pull from it for future distributions.
