Young Voters Respond to Trump Administration’s Expected Order to Dismantle Department of Education

NextGen America released the following statement:

“The Department of Education helps fund our country’s public schools, protects students from discrimination, supports special education programs for millions of students with disabilities, provides student aid like Pell Grant funds for millions, and employs hundreds of thousands of hard-working people. By signing this Executive Order, Donald Trump is urging Republicans and unelected billionaire Elon Musk to end these critical services that impact our daily lives. Ending the DoE will not only have dangerous implications today, but resounding impacts for future generations too. This isn’t about ‘saving money’ or ‘returning power’ to the states, it’s about defunding and privatizing public schools to create tax cuts for billionaires.

“Young people call on our lawmakers to take action and block Trump’s illegal attack on the Department of Education. We want a government that works for us, not the billionaires who want to take our freedoms, endanger our families, and control our futures. The American people do not support these actions, and educators, parents, and young people across the country will continue to organize, advocate, and mobilize so that all students have well-resourced schools.”
