Videos Show Man Using Megaphone to Search for Loved Ones Outside ICE Detention Center During Vigil

Heart-wrenching videos have begun circulating on social media of a growing grassroots effort outside an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center, where a man is seen calling out names over a megaphone in hopes of locating missing family members detained in recent immigration raids.

As a candlelight vigil was held outside the facility, community members gathered across the street—some holding signs, others holding back tears. In the videos, one man stands with a megaphone, reading out names and hometowns, searching for detained relatives. For a short time, those inside the detention center responded, appearing at windows and shouting back in recognition. Soon after, detainees were forced to move away from the windows, silencing any potential for confirmation or human connection.

This method, though simple and peaceful, has become one of the only ways families can get answers. ICE currently offers no clear communication to family members after raids, often failing to disclose the location or status of detainees. Many people are transported across state lines, sometimes thousands of miles away, without notice—effectively disappearing from their communities.

“This megaphone is the only way we’ve been able to hear from the inside,” said one vigil participant. “They don’t let us call, they don’t give us answers, and we’re just left wondering if our family members are safe—or even alive.”

Despite posing no danger to the facility or to detainees, efforts like this continue to be met with obstruction. Advocates are demanding transparency from ICE and humane treatment for detainees and their families, including timely information about detention locations and basic communication rights.

Community members are calling on elected officials, human rights organizations, and the public to stand with them in demanding accountability and dignity for immigrant families.
