Vanessa Cárdenas on Trump Pursuit of Mass Deportation: “Going for Broke…Due Process…Rule of Law…and Sanctity of U.S. Citizenship Be Damned”

Washington, DC — The other day drove home a stark and scary reality that the Trump administration is prepared to act with impunity in advancing its mass deportation – and broader authoritarian – agenda.

Not only did the Trump administration launch “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago, but the U.S. Supreme Court sided with President Trump and Stephen Miller’s plans to target indiscriminately and racially profile in L.A. and potentially elsewhere. Meanwhile, as NBC News reported, “in a sign of how the agency has moved from targeted enforcement to broad street sweeps under the Trump administration,” ICE has scrapped the work that officers once had to do before immigration arrests – namely, identify for the record who they were going after and why.

“Rules and laws designed to protect our collective rights and ensure basic decency and accountability are being dismantled before our very eyes. The Trump administration is going for broke in its pursuit of mass deportation, whether it’s due process, the rule of law, protections against racial profiling, the sanctity of U.S. citizenship, or even basic ICE paper trails and hiring standards.

Added together, it is evident the Trump administration aims to uproot, overturn or ignore everything we stand for and undo the protections guaranteed under the Constitution. None of these renegade acts are about immigration solutions or making progress on public safety. Instead they’re trying to sow fear and chill dissent, lash out at their political opponents and divide the nation while remaking it in MAGA’s preferred image. ”
