Washington, DC — As the dust settles one week after the 2025 elections, Vanessa Cárdenas and America’s Voice have been assessing the results and what they mean for the future.
In Politico, “Trump built a surprising voter coalition. One key piece just cracked,” includes a deep-dive recap of Latino voters’ sharp movement toward Democrats and quotes from Vanessa Cárdenas:
“Latino voters, who swung toward President Donald Trump in 2024, boomeranged back to Democrats last week, signaling the fraying of his coalition less than one year into his second term.
… ‘This doesn’t mean that Democrats have it in the bag,’ said Vanessa Cárdenas, executive director of America’s Voice, an immigration reform group, who added that she hopes to see Democrats message more on immigration in addition to the economy during the midterms. ‘We’ve seen it before — there’s a lot of distrust of Democrats on immigration issues because of promises that have been made. They have a lot to vote against … The challenge for Democrats is giving them something to vote for.’”
Vanessa Cárdenas also joined the Latino Victory Project’s Substack Live event, “Election Debrief 2025: Latino Voters Reject Cruelty and Chaos.” As Latino Victory Project noted:
“Following the November elections, Latino Victory President & CEO Katharine Pichardo sat down with Vanessa Cárdenas, Executive Director of America’s Voice, to discuss what the results reveal about Latino voters and the political future of immigration … Across the country, voters — especially women, young people, and Latinos — rejected the chaos, cruelty, and economic failures of Trump’s leadership. Vanessa Cárdenas said the results showed clear momentum for Democrats and deep frustration with rising costs, deportation threats, and government dysfunction.” Tune in to the full conversation here
According to Vanessa Cárdenas, America’s Voice Executive Director:
“Americans believe the Trump anti-immigrant campaign goes too far, as exit polling and the results themselves make clear. Among Latino voters in particular, immigration and the mass deportation agenda seem to be a big factor in the sharp movement away from Trump and the GOP and toward Democrats. Yet the Trump administration is doubling down, rather than recognizing the rebuke from the broad American majority. The American people are demanding a better way, on immigration and beyond.”
