UTRGV to Remain WAC Affiliate in Men’s Soccer and Women’s Swimming & Diving

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Wednesday that it has accepted an invitation issued by the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Board of Directors to remain in the WAC in the sports of men’s soccer and women’s swimming & diving effective with the 2024-25 academic year.

UTRGV has participated in the WAC as a men’s soccer member since the program was re-established in 2015, finishing second in the conference standings during both the 2018 and spring 2021 campaigns. UTRGV student-athletes have earned a combined 20 All-WAC men’s soccer honors during the Vaqueros’ tenure as a league member.

UTRGV Athletics will launch its women’s swimming & diving program in the fall of 2024 and compete in the state-of-the-art City of Pharr Natatorium. UTRGV co-hosted the 2023 and 2024 WAC Swimming & Diving Championships prior to the women’s swimming & diving program’s official debut.
