UTRGV School of Nursing: Making a Difference
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) School of Nursing, under the guidance of Clinical Professor Gilda Rodriguez, RN, FNP-C, has successfully completed a meaningful community health assessment for the City of Mission. This project was carried out by nursing students as part of their final steps toward becoming Registered Nurses.
As part of the project, Mayor Norie Gonzalez Garza, Mayor Pro Tem Ruben Plata, Fire Chief Adrian Garcia, and Police Chief Cesar Torres warmly welcomed the nursing students, offering them an insightful overview of Mission’s rich history, its ongoing growth, and development initiatives.
But it wasn’t just about research—these future nurses also gave back to the community in heartfelt ways. During their time in Mission, they actively participated in several charitable efforts, including:
- Filling blessing boxes with essential items,
- Contributing to the Food Bank RGV-Mission Resource Center.
Their dedication and community spirit have made a lasting impact, not just through their health assessments but also through their selfless service.
A big thank you to the UTRGV School of Nursing and its students for their hard work and compassion. You are truly shaping the future of healthcare in our community!
