TxDOT Road Projects Underway In Brownsville

The City of Brownsville Department of Engineering and Public Works has announced that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is making steady progress on two major road improvement projects within the city limits.

State Highway 48 Median and Overlay Project

TxDOT is also enhancing State Highway 48 by raising medians and improving the road surface with concrete medians and a new overlay. This work extends from FM 511 to State Highway 48 and is projected to be finished by May 2025.

State Highway 4 Concrete Pavement Project

The State Highway 4 Concrete Pavement Project focuses on rehabilitating the roadway to improve safety and functionality. The project involves grading, base preparation, resurfacing, structures, drainage improvements, signage, and updated pavement markings. The work spans from the Frontage Road through State Highway 48 and is scheduled for completion in March 2026.

These infrastructure improvements aim to enhance road safety and durability while accommodating future traffic demands. Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious and plan for possible delays in these areas during construction.
