Tragic Hot Air Balloon Crash in Southern Brazil Leaves 8 Dead and Multiple Injured

Santa Catarina, Brazil – A devastating hot air balloon accident on the morning of June 21, 2025, near the city of Praia Grande, Santa Catarina, has left eight individuals dead and several others seriously injured.

The balloon, carrying a total of 22 passengers, caught fire while airborne, leading to a crash that resulted in the deaths of eight occupants. The remaining 14 individuals, including the pilot, survived and were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

According to eyewitness reports and preliminary footage circulating online, flames erupted in the balloon’s basket mid-flight. Despite the pilot’s attempt at an emergency descent, the balloon crashed shortly after being fully engulfed in flames.

Governor Jorginho Mello of Santa Catarina has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and confirmed that a full investigation is now underway.

“We mourn the loss of life in this terrible tragedy,” said Governor Mello. “Our state will fully support the investigation and provide every resource needed to assist the victims’ families and the survivors.”
