Torres Earns All-WAC Tournament Team Honors

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) baseball team learned on Sunday that graduate student left fielder Adrian Torres earned All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tournament Team honors.

Torres hit .688/.750/1.000, going 11-for-16 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI, six runs scored, three walks and three stolen bases in four games.

Torres opened the tournament by tying what was then his career high in hits by going 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and a career-high three stolen bases in a win over No. 6 UT Arlington on Tuesday. Torres is the first Vaquero to steal three bases in a game since April 23, 2021, when Coleman Grubbs did so against Seattle U. Torres is the first player to steal three bases in a WAC Tournament game since May 21, 2015 (exactly nine years prior), when Colin Peterson of Seattle U did so against No. 3 Utah Valley.

After drawing a walk on Wednesday against Utah Valley, Torres went a career-best 5-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored against No. 1 Grand Canyon on Thursday. Torres is the first player with a first 5-hit performance at the WAC Tournament since May 27, 2016, when Craig Brinkerhoff of Utah Valley went 5-for-5 against Seattle U.

Torres closed out the tournament by reaching base in all five trips to the plate against No. 4 California Baptist on Friday. Torres went 2-for-2 with a 3-run home run, tying his season high in RBI with three, a career-high three runs scored, a career-high tying two walks, and a hit by pitch.
