The Trump family increases its fortune to $6 billion after launching a cryptocurrency

The family of U.S. President Donald Trump increased its net worth on Monday to around $6 billion, on the first day of trading of the cryptocurrency from his project World Liberty Financial.
Until now, the digital currency, which trades under the ticker WLFI, was not available on the open market, and people who invested in the company could not exchange tokens.
However, since yesterday, WLFI can now be bought and sold on platforms like Binance, although the founders’ tokens and those of other project members remain locked and are not yet available for sale.
According to data from the website CoinMarketCap, trading soared on cryptocurrency platforms Monday morning, and in less than an hour about $1 billion worth of tokens were exchanged.
Meanwhile, today the cryptocurrency reached a market capitalization of $6 billion at its peak, although by midday it had fallen 9% to about $5.4 billion.
Trump — named “emeritus co-founder” of the project — and his family own nearly a quarter of WLFI’s total supply, co-founded by the president’s three children.
The now-president announced the cryptocurrency alongside his son Donald Trump Jr. in September 2024, while preparing his election campaign.
WLFI is an untransferable governance token intended only for investors covered by the Regulation D exemption of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
That exemption allows companies to raise capital without registering securities, mainly by offering them to accredited investors or through small private offerings.
A governance token gives its holder the ability to participate in the governance processes of a crypto project. These tokens are used to vote on proposals, make decisions, and influence the future of a project.
Last October, the company got off to a slow start, with low sales and technical glitches on its website, where it is described as “the only DeFi (decentralized finance) platform inspired by Donald J. Trump.”
In addition, last January the president launched his own “meme cryptocurrency”, called $TRUMP, whose valuation reached billions of dollars on its first day of trading.
