The Beat Goes On: Mission CISD bands advance to area competition

MISSION, TEXAS– Months of rehearsals, musical refinement, and precision marching paid off for Mission CISD’s award-winning bands. Both the Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Patriot Band and Mission High School (MHS) Eagle Band earned top ratings at the 2025 West Zone Pigskin Region Marching Contest, held October 18 at La Joya ISD Stadium.

Both bands received Division One – Superior ratings, the highest possible at the regional level, qualifying them to advance to the UIL 5A Area G Marching Contest.
According to the University Interscholastic League (UIL), competitive marching bands are evaluated on musical performance, visual precision, and overall design. The Patriot and Eagle Bands impressed judges with their artistry, technical mastery, and showmanship — standing out among some of the region’s most talented ensembles.
The VMHS Patriot Band, under the direction of Head Band Director Gabriel Molina, captivated audiences with their 2025 production, “Star Crossed Lovers”, a love story written among the stars. Drum Majors Regina Cantu, Emily De Leon, and Sophia Garcia led the ensemble through their performance.
The MHS Eagle Band, directed by Dr. Saul Torres, took flight with their show “Birds of Prey”, showcasing visuals and musical precision. The band was guided on the field by Drum Majors Arielle Torres, Noah Duncan, and Angel Salinas.
Carlos Garcia, Mission CISD Director for Fine Arts, shared his pride in both programs:
“I couldn’t be prouder of our students and directors,” Garcia said. “Anyone who’s watched these bands rehearse knows how much heart they put into every note and every step. Their hard work, long hours, and passion really came through on the field this weekend. We can’t wait to see them continue to grow and represent Mission CISD with pride at area.”
Next up, both the VMHS Patriot Band and MHS Eagle Band will advance to the UIL 5A Area G Marching Contest on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Tiger Stadium in Mercedes, Texas. There, they’ll compete for a coveted spot at the UIL State Marching Band Championships, continuing Mission CISD’s proud tradition of excellence in the fine arts.
