Taylor Swift’s Albums Double in Spotify Streams After Reclaiming Her Catalog

New York (EFE) – Taylor Swift’s oldest albums on Spotify doubled their number of streams last Friday—the same day the singer announced she had regained the rights to her music catalog—compared to their average daily streams between April 1 and May 29.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which obtained data from the streaming platform, Speak Now (2010) saw the highest spike in streams that day, with a 430% global increase.

Meanwhile, her self-titled debut album (2006) and Reputation (2017)—the only two albums she has not yet re-recorded—saw listenership increases of 220% and 175%, respectively.

Streams of Fearless (2008) rose by 160%, Red (2012) by 150%, and 1989 (2014) by 110%.

According to the outlet, Swift—who has 82 million monthly listeners on Spotify and is currently the tenth most-streamed artist globally—experienced an overall 40% surge in streams just on Friday.

That day, the singer announced that she had regained ownership of her music catalog, nearly six years after it was sold to producer Scooter Braun.

Prior to this announcement, Swift had re-recorded four of her albums, releasing them under the same titles followed by “(Taylor’s Version),” which achieved major success, topping streaming charts and fueling her massive Eras Tour.

The 35-year-old singer-songwriter credited the tour’s support as a key factor in her ability to reclaim her music. The tour wrapped up in December 2024 and generated over $2 billion in ticket sales.

Swift’s efforts to reclaim her music began in June 2019, when Scooter Braun—then manager of stars like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande—acquired Big Machine Label Group, the record label that owned the master recordings of her first six albums.

Following that acquisition, Swift publicly stated that she had been denied the chance to buy back her masters and that her catalog was sold without her consent. This led her to launch a re-recording project to regain control of her work.
