Taylor Swift Buys Back Rights to Her First 6 Albums

Los Angeles (USA), (EFE) – Taylor Swift announced this Friday that she has regained control of her music catalog nearly six years after it was sold to producer Scooter Braun.

“I’ve been crying tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out this is really happening. I can truly say these words: All the music I’ve made… now belongs to me,” wrote the American singer in a letter published on her website.

Swift said that regaining her music was largely due to the overwhelming support she received from fans during her international The Eras Tour, which began in March 2023 and concluded in December 2024, grossing over $2 billion in ticket sales.

“My fans know how important this has been to me, so much so that I re-recorded and meticulously released four of my albums, calling them ‘Taylor’s Version,’” she said, describing it as her “greatest dream come true.”

“The passionate support you showed for those albums and the success story you turned The Eras Tour into allowed me to buy back my music,” she affirmed.

Swift’s efforts to reclaim her music began in June 2019 when Scooter Braun—then manager of stars like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande—acquired Big Machine Label Group, the record label that owned the masters of her first six albums.

From that point on, Swift publicly denounced that she was denied the opportunity to purchase the masters herself and that her catalog had been sold without her consent, prompting her to launch a re-recording project to regain control of her work.

A year later, Braun sold the catalog to Shamrock Capital without consulting the singer, and this Friday Swift revealed that the music company was the one that reached out to her to make this possible.

“They handled every interaction with us honestly, fairly, and respectfully. For them it was business, but I felt like they saw it for what it was to me: my memories, my sweat, my handwriting, and my decades of dreams. I am infinitely grateful,” she said.
