STHS Edinburg To Welcome Corporate Leaders For Special Service Excellence Award Celebration

Parent Company Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) leaders to visit STHS Edinburg campus on Tuesday, September 30 to officially present facility leaders with the 2024 Service Excellence Award during a special community celebration
There’s no refuting the significance of consistently delivering high-quality, compassionate service to patients, visitors and colleagues in the hospital setting.
Impacting every aspect of a patient’s journey, Service Excellence improves patient satisfaction, health outcomes and loyalty while boosting employee morale and strengthening a facility’s reputation.
In fact, about 82% of patients consider quality customer service the most important factor when choosing a provider, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health, with a strong reputation driving loyalty in 37% of consumers.
For South Texas Health System’s parent company, Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), Service Excellence means delivering professional, timely, effective and efficient care to all customers at all times.
To recognize exceptional service quality and patient experience, UHS leadership bestows the Service Excellence Award annually to one of its nearly 30 acute care facilities in the United States that demonstrates outstanding performance in creating a positive patient experience and an unwavering commitment to delivering a high standard of care.
STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s have been named the recipient of the 2024 UHS Service Excellence Award, the first South Texas Health System facilities to earn the prestigious award.
“It’s an honor to receive the UHS Service Excellence Award because this recognition highlights the important and steadfast work of our exceptional team at STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s that strives to provide exceptional care to every patient we serve,” says Lance Ames, Chief Executive Officer, STHS Edinburg & STHS Children’s. “The award is a testament to our consistent focus on empathy, communication and personalized care across all departments—from the administrative staff to our clinical teams and support services—to create a positive patient experience, improve health outcomes and build community confidence in the care we extend to our patients and their families.”
On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s will host a community event to celebrate their historic award. UHS President and CEO Marc Miller and Edward Sim, Executive Vice President and President, Acute Care, will be on hand to present the official Service Excellence Award to Ames and the entire hospital team.
Taking place from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the lobby area near the hospital’s gift shop, the special event will highlight the facilities’ outstanding performance across key Service Excellence metrics and feature the participation of STHS Edinburg and STHS Children’s leaders and staff members, former patients and Edinburg Mayor Ramiro Garza, Jr.
