Statue of Trump and Epstein appear in front of Washington Capitol

Washington, (EFE).— A statue depicting U.S. President Donald Trump and financier Jeffrey Epstein holding hands appeared Tuesday on the National Mall, in front of the Capitol in Washington.

The piece, titled “Best Friends Forever”, was installed by an anonymous art collective and will remain until Sunday under a permit granted by the National Park Service.

The sculpture, made of foam and resin painted to resemble bronze, includes plaques with ironic inscriptions alluding to the alleged closeness between Trump and Epstein. One of them celebrates “the lasting bond” between the two, which has sparked immediate controversy on social media and among visitors.

The White House reacted quickly to the installation, calling it a “political provocation” and reminding the public that Trump “kicked Epstein out of his club years ago for being a ‘weirdo,’” denying any close relationship with the financier.

The president has insisted that he distanced himself from Epstein long before the legal cases against him came to light.

Jeffrey Epstein, accused of child sexual exploitation and human trafficking, was arrested in 2019 and died in federal prison under circumstances that stirred controversy. His ties to powerful figures, including Trump, Bill Clinton, and Prince Andrew of England, have been the subject of intense public and political scrutiny in the United States.
