State Of The Brownsville Police Department
Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda was front and center, talking about how they’re constantly adapting to changes and challenges in law enforcement. He stressed how crucial it is to have the right resources and staff to keep up with Brownsville’s needs.
One big focus for them has been technology and data to work smarter. Even with challenges, they’ve been coming up with innovative solutions and teaming up with the community to tackle problems together.
“Optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the day-to-day resources that can only be achieved. If you have a proper counter, you have a stat that you can forecast that you can use to be able to translate into operational needs on a daily basis. So that’s what we’ve been able to achieve. That’s what continues to make this effective. And that’s why we’re able to have the statistics, the crime stats that we’re able to showcase today. Of course, the efforts of our men and women serving the front lines.”
City Manager Helen Ramirez praised Chief Sauceda’s leadership and innovation, acknowledging the department’s efforts for the welfare of its officers, including consecutive raises and mental health support services.
“2022 2023 we were within the top 20 safest cities in the nation and our mission is to do that. But through community policing, so you’ll hear a lot about servant leadership. And I think this event has demonstrated that transparency is very important and data driven technology is important to get that transparency out.”
The event was attended by members of the Brownsville PD and law enforcement officers from different cities in the Rio Grande Valley, showing how teamwork creates safer communities.
Looking forward, the department has its eyes set on improving public safety and keeping crime rates down. Chief Sauceda made it clear that they’re staying committed to being transparent and accountable every step of the way.
