Spanish-language music has made history on Billboard magazine’s US chart

International News, (EFE).- Spanish-language music has made history on Billboard magazine’s US chart of the most popular albums.

For the first time, two Latin artists, Bad Bunny and Fuerza Regida, occupy the top two spots on its main chart. “Debí Tira Más Fotos” by Puerto Rican Bad Bunny returned to number one this week on the Billboard 200, the magazine’s main chart, while “111XPANTIA” by Mexican band Fuerza Regida debuted at number two.

According to the magazine itself, this is “a historic week for Latin music on the Billboard 200 album chart across all genres.

For the first time in the chart’s 69-year history, Spanish-language albums occupy numbers one and two at the same time.”

“Debí Tira Más Fotos” by Bad Bunny returns to the top, rising from number seven to number one on the May 17 chart following its vinyl release. And Fuerza Regida, meanwhile, achieved its highest chart position yet, with its new album, ‘111XPANTIA,’ debuting at number 2.

Fuerza Regida also claimed number one on the Spanish-language charts featuring duos, groups, and regional Mexican music. Bad Bunny’s album now has a fourth week at the top of the chart, after spending three consecutive weeks at number 1 from January 25 to February 8.

The Billboard 200, which began weekly publication in March 1956, ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption measured in album units and compiled by Luminate.

‘Debí Tira Más Fotos’ sold 48,000 copies in the United States in the week ending May 8, the highest sales week for a Latin music album in nearly six years.

The last Latin album with the highest-selling week was Santana’s debut “Africa Speaks,” which sold 57,000 copies (on the chart dated June 22, 2019). Force Regida’s “111XPANTIA” debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200, becoming the most successful Spanish-language album in history by a duo or group.
