Souza Selected to Women’s Tennis All-WAC Singles Second Team for Third Time
RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced on Wednesday that The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women’s tennis junior Marjorie Souza has been named to the All-WAC Singles Second Team.
This is the third consecutive season Souza makes the All-WAC Second Team for her singles play. She went 5-2 in the No. 1 spot in conference play and was 16-5 overall this spring, with 15 wins in the top flight. She holds an 18-8 mark for the 2023-24 season.
Souza had a season-best seven-match winning streak midway through the spring and started WAC play with three consecutive wins. She earned a pair of gritty three-set wins over Tarleton State’s Emma Persson and Abilene Christian’s Olivia Sears and won her final two conference matches in straight-sets, handily taking care of her opponents.
The junior standout ended the regular season with a .762 winning percentage in singles. She is one win away from entering the top-five in program history for career combined wins, currently sitting at 94.
#6 UTRGV (10-11) faced #3 UT Arlington Thursday in the first round of the WAC Tournament at the HEB Tennis Center at Pendleton Park.
