School Buses Are Back on the Roads!
As we usher in a new school year, it’s time to remind ourselves of the vital role we play in ensuring the safety of our students. Starting next week, school buses will be back on the roads, carrying our precious young learners to and from their schools. It’s a responsibility we all share to make their journey a safe one.
Slow Down in School Zones
School zones are designed to protect children as they walk to and from school. Speed limits are reduced for a reason—children are unpredictable and may step onto the road unexpectedly. By slowing down, you increase your reaction time and decrease the severity of any potential accidents. Always stay alert, especially during the early morning and afternoon hours when school traffic is highest.
Stop for School Buses
When a school bus’s red lights are flashing, it means children are getting on or off the bus. The law requires all vehicles to stop—no matter which direction you’re coming from. This isn’t just a rule; it’s a matter of life and death. Passing a stopped school bus is not only illegal but also incredibly dangerous. Give our students the time and space they need to cross the road safely.
Create a Secure Environment
By following traffic rules and staying attentive on the roads, you contribute to creating a secure environment for students. This small effort on your part can make a significant difference in preventing accidents and ensuring that students arrive at their destinations safely.
As the school buses roll out next week, let’s all commit to being vigilant and responsible drivers. Our shared roadways are safer when everyone does their part. Let’s make this school year a safe and successful one for all!
