“Remove Her Clothes” Function Must be Removed from X

WASHINGTON, D.C. — 404 Media reported that users of Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, have been utilizing a “remove her clothes” function on X, allowing individuals to reply under images on the platform requesting that the AI tool “remove her clothes” to generate an image of the targeted individual wearing lingerie or a bikini.
Lisa Gilbert, co-president of Public Citizen reacted to the news:
“X is streamlining and normalizing sexual harassment by embedding it into everyday social media use. We know this will overwhelmingly target women and girls, based on data on the related issue of non-consensual intimate deepfakes.
“Think of any picture you have ever posted on social media — of yourself or a family member — now imagine that any stranger can repost that picture in a matter of seconds publicly with the subject of the photo in lingerie without consequence. That is the creepy reality that X is enabling.
“Grok is not some obscure program living on the gross, fringe corners of the internet. It is accessible to the casual user and owned by a company owned by the richest person on the planet. There is no excuse for this function to be permitted on Grok.”
Ilana Beller, democracy organizing manager added:
“The ‘remove her clothes’ function of Elon Musk’s Grok bot on X is disgusting — it cannot become an acceptable part of our everyday online experience. X must remove this function immediately, and ensure that this is never allowed on the platform again.”
“This disgusting function is a reminder of the need and momentum around fighting the related issue of non-consensual intimate deepfakes, a rare issue that unites Republicans and Democrats for good reason. Both Congress and two-thirds of state legislatures have passed overwhelmingly bipartisan legislation to regulate non-consensual intimate deepfakes. Melania Trump has even championed this issue.”
