Relocation Of Spacex Headquarters To Starbase Near Brownsville
In a recent announcement on “X” (formerly known as Twitter), SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk revealed plans to move SpaceX headquarters from Hawthorne, California to Starbase at Boca Chica Beach, not far from Brownsville.
Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. expressed his excitement about the announcement, noting that it aligns with the city’s longstanding goal to integrate SpaceX into the community. “I think that is fantastic news. I think it will just continue the investment in the region. It puts us on the map at a much bigger level now that we have the headquarters of the most valuable aerospace company in the world. I think that is a feather in our hat that we will be able to say that we have that in our region and it will just create more opportunity for our residents and our businesses,” Cowen stated.
As part of its expansion plans, SpaceX aims to increase the number of launches and landings at the Boca Chica launch site to 25 annually. To achieve this, the company requires approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA will be holding public meetings to gather input on SpaceX’s proposal.
The four in-person public meetings are scheduled as follows:
Tuesday, August 13, 2024: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM & 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the City of South Padre Island Convention Center, 7355 Padre Boulevard, South Padre Island.
Thursday, August 15, 2024: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM & 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center, 309 East Railroad Avenue, Port Isabel.
Additionally, a virtual meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. For more information on the virtual meeting, visit www.faa.gov.
