Quinta Mazatlán to Celebrate 11th Anniversary of Tai Chi

McAllen, Texas – On Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., Quinta Mazatlán will celebrate the 11th anniversary of the McAllen Tai Chi Group, honoring the journey of a practice that has brought health, balance, and community to its participants.
Founded in 2014 by Dr. Xiaohui (Sophie) Wang, a UTRGV professor of Statistics, the group began at the McAllen Nature Center and later found its home at Quinta Mazatlán in 2023. What started as a small gathering has grown into a vibrant community of individuals dedicated to improving their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being through Tai Chi.
Tai Chi, often called “meditation in motion,” offers numerous health benefits, including improved balance, flexibility, cardiovascular health, stress reduction, and mindfulness. Longtime participant Zach Krieger, who was once limited by Parkinson’s symptoms, now stands tall, serves as an assistant instructor, and will celebrate his 80th birthday this year.
The free classes take place every Saturday from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at Quinta Mazatlán, and all are welcome to join. Participants should wear comfortable clothing, flexible footwear, and bring water. The only requirement is the park entrance fee or an annual membership pass.
