Pet Deposit Assistance Program

The City of Mission takes pride in providing the Pet Deposit Assistance Program. This initiative supports pet parents who meet income qualifications in obtaining housing by offering assistance with pet deposits and providing vaccines as well as wellness services for their pets.

Below are some frequently asked questions.

  • How can I verify my income as self-employed? Please submit a self-declared statement letter of your occupation and income earned in the past 30 days.
  • How many pets can I receive pet deposit assistance for? The program will only allow one (1) pet deposit assistance per household.
  • When will I be notified of award? Please allow up to 15 days to be notified of the award. In order to expedite your application, please submit all required documents in order to consider your application complete.
  • Will I receive a reimbursement of the pet deposit from my landlord? No. The program funds will be paid directly by the city to your landlord on your behalf. This is a one-time payment with no action for reimbursements.
  • Does my pet need to be vaccinated or microchipped to be eligible? No. The city highly recommends that you consider the available resources to assist applicants with low-cost vaccines, spay neuter, etc.
  • Are there any breed restrictions for eligibility of the program? No. As long as your landlord allows the breed pertaining to your application, your pet will be eligible for consideration of award.
  • Do I need to reside within Mission City Limits to qualify? Yes. We will review your applications listed address with the lease agreement and determine if you live within city limits of Mission, Texas. Applicants living outside of these city limits will not be eligible.
  • What is the maximum amount I can qualify for assistance? The Pet Deposit Assistance Program will award recipients the amount listed on their lease agreement, but no more than $350.00.
  • What if I signed lease agreement before program start date? Lease agreement signed on or after June 30, 2023 will be considered for program eligibility. However, if your lease was signed prior to June 30, 2023 and you now want to bring a pet home, we will accept an official addendum to your lease agreement showing the pet deposit fee
