Pearson Elementary’s Liza Guerra Proves to Be ‘What a Teacher’ with Whataburger Grant
MISSION, TEXAS– Pearson Elementary School teacher Liza Guerra has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious WhataTeacher grant, awarded by Whataburger. Guerra is one of only 75 educators recognized across Whataburger’s 16-state footprint for her commitment to making a meaningful impact in her school and community.
The WhataTeacher grants are part of Whataburger Feeding Student Success, the company’s community program dedicated to supporting education and addressing food insecurity. These grants recognize exceptional teachers who go above and beyond in their dedication to students, fostering a positive learning environment and making a difference both inside and outside the classroom.
Guerra’s commitment to education spans over three decades, during which she has inspired countless students with her passion for learning and dedication to their success. Receiving the WhataTeacher grant not only acknowledges her hard work but also highlights the positive influence she continues to have at Pearson Elementary.
Reflecting on her journey, Guerra expressed her gratitude for the honor.
“My real inspiration is my parents, especially my mom—she was a teacher. Here I am, 32 years later, and it’s been so wonderful,” said Guerra. “My principal, Mrs. Davis, has been incredibly supportive over the years I’ve worked with her.  I’m so grateful for her guidance and encouragement.”
Pearson Elementary Principal, Melissa Davis, praised Guerra’s dedication and lasting influence within the school community.
“Liza Guerra embodies the spirit of teaching. Her passion for education and her students is evident in everything she does,” said Davis. “We are incredibly proud of her and grateful to Whataburger for recognizing her contributions. Liza’s commitment to her students and her enthusiasm for teaching serve as an inspiration to us all.”
The WhataTeacher grant aims to celebrate educators who are committed to student success, both in and out of the classroom. Guerra’s selection is a testament to her unwavering dedication to her students and her community, and Mission CISD is honored to have such an outstanding educator represent the district.
