Nicholas Swanson as Assistant Athletic Director

RIO GRANDE VALLEY – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Monday the hiring of Nicholas Swanson as the assistant athletic director for ticket sales and operations.

Swanson joins UTRGV after spending the 2023-24 athletic year with Arizona. In this role, he oversaw all ticketing operations for women’s basketball, track & field, and volleyball including, the planning, organizing, administering, implementing, and renewal of ticket sales. He also oversaw all ticket sales from the box office at on-site athletic events and supervised student workers.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Nicholas to the Rio Grande Valley as the newest member of our ticketing staff,” Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement and Administration Derek Schramm said. “Nicholas brings with him ticketing knowledge & experience from the highest levels of collegiate athletics and the NFL that will undoubtedly be valuable as we continue to attract large crowds at our athletic events. I’m confident Nicholas will make a positive impact on UTRGV Athletics, and I believe our fans & season ticket holders will enjoy the quality of customer service & professionalism they will experience when working with him.”

Prior to working with Arizona, Swanson spent time as a ticket and fan services intern with the Philadelphia Eagles. He assisted with incoming calls and emails and visitors with questions regarding tickets. He also managed and maintained a season ticket file system and helped organize and input incoming payments, including tracking and creating batches and financial reports.

From August 2021 to December 2022, Swanson worked as a ticket operations assistant where he performed and executed ticket operations and customer service for single game and full seasons across multiple sports at Missouri. He also managed the Archtics Ticketing System, processed card payments, built payment plans, and handled cash transactions daily.

From January 2022 to June 2022, Swanson worked as a marketing and promotions intern for Houston SaberCats. In this role, he gathered and produced audio and visual content for social media, corporate sponsors and the SaberCats official website. He also represented the SaberCats at media shoots across the city and controlled the audio throughout the stadium and on the field.

Swanson graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Communications with an emphasis in organizational communication and his Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation, and Sport with an emphasis in sport management from Missouri in May 2023. While at Missouri, he also graduated with a minor in Journalism, Psychology, and Business.

Swanson is currently pursuing his Master of Legal Studies with an emphasis in sports law and business.
