NextGen America Re-Launches Program to Build New Generation of Leaders

The Leaders Lab program ushers in the next generation of organizers through education.

Washington, D.C. — Today, NextGen America announced the start of their 2025 Leaders Lab program, an education initiative designed to increase the civic and electoral engagement of young people. The 12-week development program teaches students modern organizing skills that they can use to engage their peers today and into the future. The program includes organizing training, hands-on experience, professional development, and community-building – centering young people in order to strengthen our democracy.

This year’s spring cohort includes 46 students on 25 college campuses across six states, including Arizona, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. In initial outreach, nearly 95% of students participating in the program cited a desire to increase civic engagement on their campus as the primary reason for joining the program.

“In order to build a culture of civic engagement, we know it is essential to organize year-round,” NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez said. “NextGen is excited to announce the launch of our 2025 Spring Leaders Lab cohort, continuing our work to increase civic engagement through student education and empowerment. College campuses have always been the heartbeat of our youth-led movement for change, and by investing and organizing in these communities, we are building a culture of life-long organizers and laying the groundwork for future election cycles.”

NextGen’s Leaders Lab program aims to educate hundreds of young voters to build our democracy and build a government that works for all of us.
