New Report Identifies Brownsville As Rising Tech Hub
A new report from California-based Secure Data Recovery has spotlighted Brownsville as one of the nation’s major emerging tech hubs. Titled America’s Next Tech Hubs, the report ranks Brownsville second on the list of up-and-coming tech cities in the US, driven by the city’s impressive tech sector growth.
According to the report, Brownsville has added 900 tech jobs since 2019, reflecting a surge in employment opportunities that cements its reputation as a new player in the tech industry. The city’s rapid growth is partly attributed to major corporations such as SpaceX and Next Decade establishing operations in the area, which has fueled a boom in tech talent.
“The City of Brownsville has added 10 highly skilled technical jobs in just the last two years, and big companies like SpaceX and Next Decade are drawing even more talent here,” said Jorge Cardenas, Chief Information Officer for the City of Brownsville. “I think that’s one of the main reasons Brownsville is now considered a tech hub.”
Cardenas, who has experience with the Department of Defense and has worked across North America, expressed confidence in the city’s bright future. “When I first came through Brownsville, I saw what they wanted to do with the tech industry here. With SpaceX already in the area and the new gas company coming in, I knew this place was going to grow fast—and it’s happening. This is the best time to be in Brownsville.”
The report also highlights a remarkable 54 percent increase in tech companies setting up operations in Brownsville over the past five years, further solidifying its status as a fast-growing tech destination.
Secure Data Recovery’s analysis, which draws on employment and wage data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor, focuses on tech industries in small and medium-sized cities across the country. Brownsville’s rapid development places it at the forefront of cities that are quickly transforming into technology-driven economies.
As Brownsville continues to attract new companies and skilled workers, its emergence as a tech hub is becoming increasingly evident, positioning the city for continued growth and innovation in the coming years.
