New Hidalgo Police Department Law Enforcement Academy

Hidalgo, Texas– The City of Hidalgo and its police department proudly announce the inauguration of the Hidalgo Polica Department Law Enforcement Academy (HPDLEA). This event marks the establishment of the police departments’ own law enforcement academy, enhancing resources and competitiveness for aspiring law enforcement professionals in our region.

The ceremony will take place on Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at 900 S. Bridge St., Hidalgo. Community members, stakeholders, and media representatives are cordially invited to attend this historic occasion.

“We are excited to have been selected by the state (TCOLE) to have an independent program in Hidalgo to provide opportunities for those individuals who desire to pursue a career in law enforcement.” Said Julian J. Gonzalez, Hidalgo City Manager. “We are fortunate to have the support of our Mayor and City Council who understand the importance of this accomplishment. I especially want to express our gratitude to Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, for all of his help and support met all the needed requirements and criteria during this process.”

“I commend Mayor Coronado, the members of the City Council, City Manager Julian J. Gonzalez, and Chief of Police Romeo Rodriguez for successfully obtaining approval from TCOLE to establish a Law Enforcement Training Academy in the City of Hidalgo.” Said Senator “Chuy” Hinojosa. “With the continued growth in the Rio Grande Valley, it is important to have training academies close to home for the men and women who want to work in law enforcement. I was pleased to support their application and look forward to assisting in any way I can to support the academy and the law enforcement officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”

Chief of Police Romeo Rodriguez remarked, “This Academy is a significant step forward for the City, County and the entire South Texas region. The launch of the HPD Law Enforcement Academy demonstrates our unwavering commitment to fostering excellence within our local law enforcement community.”

The academy represents a significant milestone for the city of Hidalgo Police Department, further solidifying its dedication to providing comprehensive and high-quality education to future law enforcement professionals.
