New Community Art Exhibits at IMAS

New Community Art Exhibits at IMAS

The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) is excited to announce the opening of two community-driven art exhibits, “Operation Imagination Visual Artist Experts” and the “GeT Art Exhibit,” showcasing the creative talents of local students and young artists.

GeT Art Exhibit

In collaboration with the Guadalupe el Torrero (GeT) Foundation, IMAS proudly presents the “GeT Art Exhibit.” This exhibit features the artistic creations of middle school students from Brewster School and San Isidro School, who participated in the inaugural GeT Foundation Art Contest. The contest aimed to foster creativity and artistic expression among students through various forms of art, including drawing, photography, painting, and digital art.

The GeT Foundation is dedicated to promoting the arts and education along the borderland of South Texas and Mexico. By encouraging collaborations between the arts and sciences, the foundation seeks to connect artists, students, and the community with the world. The GeT Art Contest awards aim to support the educational and creative pursuits of students, artists, and teachers, aligning with the foundation’s mission to advance artistic endeavors.

“The GeT Foundation is grateful for the school administrators and teachers, especially Adam Cantu at Brewster School in Linn-San Manuel in the ECISD and Verónica López at San Isidro School in the San Isidro ISD, for their mentorship and support,” says Dr. Katherine Moore McAllen, Co-Founder of the GeT Art Foundation. “The GeT Foundation appreciates the families and mentors of these talented art students for encouraging them to pursue their creativity. This project is made possible with the generous support from The Raul Tijerina, Jr. Foundation.”

The GeT Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to the teachers and parents who supported the participating students: Adam Cantu at Brewster School (ECISD) and Verónica López at San Isidro School (San Isidro ISD). Additionally, the foundation expresses gratitude to Carlos Limas, MFA, and Angela Scardigno, MFA, for their curatorial leadership in this exhibition.

Operation Imagination Visual Artist Experts Exhibit

The “Visual Artist Experts” exhibit features an array of artworks created by campers from the recent Visual Artist Experts Operation Imagination camp. Hosted by IMAS, the camp provided a vibrant and creative environment for young artists to explore and develop their artistic skills. Through learning and practicing traditional art forms and experimenting with new techniques, campers delved into skeletal drawings, abstract expressionism, and surrealistic art.

The exhibit includes diverse media such as printmaking, collage, mixed media, and acrylic painting. The young artists drew inspiration from both historical and contemporary art movements, studying works by renowned artists like Frida Kahlo, Remedios Varo, Jackson Pollock, and Jim Lee. This experience encouraged campers to express their individuality and creativity, resulting in a unique and engaging collection of artworks.

The community is invited to celebrate the artistic achievements of young talents. These exhibits are a testament to the creativity and dedication of students, artists, and educators. For more information, visit www.theimasonline.org.
