Mission EDC Awards $150,000 in Funding to Local Businesses
The Mission Economic Development Corporation (Mission EDC) is making waves with its commitment to revitalizing the city’s downtown area. Through its small business program, Mission EDC is injecting $150,000 into the local economy, offering six deserving businesses the opportunity to grow, improve, and enhance their operations. This initiative targets businesses located along Conway Avenue, the heart of Mission’s vibrant community, with each selected business receiving a $25,000 grant.
After careful consideration, the Mission EDC selected the following businesses from a pool of 27 applicants:
- Border Theatre
- Ana Liz Taqueria
- Drunken Chicken
- Little Joe’s Barber Shop
- The Hook Up Barber University
- Baldo’s Tires
These grants will fund a variety of projects, including operational upgrades, improvements, façade enhancements, and broader revitalization efforts, all designed to breathe new life into downtown Mission.
The inaugural award celebration took place on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the historic Border Theatre (located at 905 N. Conway Avenue). Originally opened on November 15, 1942, the Border Theatre stands as a symbol of resilience and longevity for small businesses in Mission. For 81 years, this beloved landmark has withstood the test of time, embodying the strength and spirit of the community.
A heartfelt congratulations to all recipients as they embark on this exciting new chapter!
