Mission CISD Welcomes Nelda Lazos as Principal of Bryan Elementary

Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is excited to announce the appointment of Nelda Lazos as the new Principal of Bryan Elementary. With 19 years of dedicated service to Mission CISD, Lazos brings a wealth of experience and a strong passion for educational excellence and student success.
Lazos began her career as a 3rd-grade teacher, spending 10 years in the classroom, where she developed a deep commitment to fostering a love of learning in her students. Her journey then led her to the role of Instructional Reading Coach at Escobar Rios Elementary and Waitz Elementary, where she worked closely with teachers to elevate literacy and instructional practices. After three years in this capacity, Lazos advanced to the position of Instructional and Assessment Strategist, where she collaborated with educators across the district to improve assessment practices and align curriculum to best meet student needs.
Throughout her career, Lazos has remained dedicated to growing her leadership skills, earning a master’s degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and a certification in educational leadership. Her passion for supporting educators and students alike culminated in her appointment as Assistant Principal at Waitz Elementary in 2019, where she spent four and a half years focusing on student achievement, teacher development, and fostering a positive school culture.
As the new Principal of Bryan Elementary, Nelda is excited to continue her work in shaping the future of her students and community.
“I am truly honored and excited to serve as the principal of Bryan Elementary,” said Lazos. “This new opportunity allows me to continue fostering a love of learning, support our incredible educators, and ensure every student has the tools they need to succeed. Together, we will build a positive, inclusive, and inspiring environment where every child can thrive.”
Dr. Cris Valdez, Superintendent of Schools for Mission CISD, shared her excitement for Nelda’s appointment. “Nelda’s deep commitment to educational leadership and student success makes her the perfect fit for Bryan Elementary. We are thrilled to have her join the Mission CISD team, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of the students and community under her leadership.”
Mission CISD extends a warm welcome to Nelda Lazos and looks forward to the leadership and vision she will bring to Bryan Elementary.
