Mission CISD Welcomes Juan Garcia as Director of Guidance and Counseling

Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) is proud to announce the appointment of Juan Garcia as the new Director of Guidance & Counseling. With an extensive background in counseling and education, Garcia brings a wealth of experience to this important role.
With 24 years in education and a decade of experience as a practicing counselor, Garcia has been dedicated to guiding and supporting students in their academic journeys. He holds a master’s degree in counseling from The University of Texas-Pan American, now The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV).
Previously serving as the principal at Grulla Middle School, Garcia has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success and leadership in education. His passion for the field stems from his upbringing. “My parents were migrant farm workers, so we migrated for many, many, many years,” Garcia shared. “They gave me a choice and advocated for my education. That really drove me to pursue a career in education.”
Garcia’s philosophy is rooted in empowering students. “My passion is kids—helping them out, helping them succeed, and helping them prepare for the future after they graduate high school,” he said. “They say if you find something that you love to do, you never work a day in your life.”
Dr. Cris Valdez, Superintendent of Schools for Mission CISD, expressed enthusiasm for Garcia’s joining the Mission CISD family. “Juan Garcia’s journey in education is a testament to hard work, resilience, and a deep passion for student success. We are honored to have join Mission CISD in this leadership role, where his impact will be felt across the district.”
Mission CISD welcomes Juan Garcia’s appointment and looks forward to his guidance and support he will provide to help students achieve their full potential.
