Mission CISD Teams Shine at Special Olympics Area Basketball Competition

MISSION, TEXAS– The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (Mission CISD) participated in the Special Olympics Area Basketball Competition held on Friday, February 28, at the Parks and Recreation Building in Edinburg, Texas.
Mission CISD was well represented with two teams competing – one from Veterans Memorial High School and another from Mission High School. A total of 11 teams battled for the gold in this highly anticipated event, including teams from Weslaco East, Los Fresnos, and Sharyland.
Both Mission CISD teams showcased remarkable sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination throughout the competition. Their hard work and dedication were evident on the court, and their efforts resulted in impressive achievements:
- Veterans Memorial High School earned 1st place.
- Mission High School earned 4th place.
“We are incredibly proud of our athletes for their dedication and perseverance,” said Leonardo Esquivel, Adapted PE Teacher and Special Olympics Coach at Mission CISD. “Their performance on the court and their commitment to sportsmanship truly embody the spirit of the Special Olympics.”
