Mission CISD BPA Students Advance to State Competition in Dallas

Mission, Texas– Eight outstanding Business Professionals of America (BPA) students from Mission CISD have qualified to compete at the BPA State Leadership Conference from February 27- March 7 in Dallas, TX.

After months of dedication, teamwork, and preparation, these students are ready to showcase their business and leadership skills at the state level.

Meet the State Qualifiers

These exceptional students will be competing in various business, technology, and financial competitions:

  • Victoria Olivarez (Senior) – Fundamental Word Processing Skills & User Experience Design Team
  • Zechariah Flynn (Senior) – Advanced Word Processing
  • Danica Villarreal (Junior) – User Experience Design Team
  • Gabriela Arguijo (Senior, BPA Vice President) – User Experience Design Team
  • David Leal (Senior, BPA President) – Personal Financial Management
  • Adrian Barroso (Senior) – Device Configuration & Troubleshooting
  • Nestor Gonzalez (Senior) – Device Configuration & Troubleshooting
  • Sebastian Leal (Senior) – Device Configuration & Troubleshooting

A Journey of Hard Work and Dedication

For Victoria Olivarez, advancing to state is a long-awaited milestone. “I have qualified as an alternate before, but this is my first time actually competing at state. I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” said Olivarez. She and her teammates developed a comprehensive project that involved designing a website, social media campaign, and marketing materials for a coffee shop, all while ensuring strong teamwork and collaboration.

Danica Villarreal, another member of the User Experience Design Team, emphasized the importance of teamwork in their success. “Since we compete as a team, our success relies heavily on how well we work together. The teamwork aspect is vital because each member contributes to creating and presenting the project,” she said.

Gabriela Arguijo, competing at state for the first time in her three years of BPA, expressed her enthusiasm. “I am so eager to compete alongside my teammates. BPA has been an amazing experience, and I just want to enjoy this last competition to the fullest.”

Zechariah Flynn, competing in Advanced Word Processing, is looking forward to networking and sharpening his business skills. “I hope to gain valuable networking opportunities, enhance my leadership skills, and deepen my understanding of business strategy for future career growth,” Flynn stated.

Competing in Business and Technology

Representing BPA in Personal Financial Management, David Leal, who also serves as BPA Chapter President, is determined to make his mark at the state level.

Competing in Device Configuration & Troubleshooting, Adrian Barroso, Nestor Gonzalez, and Sebastian Leal will be showcasing their technical skills in diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues, a highly competitive and sought-after event in the BPA competition.

Mentorship and Preparation for Success

Their BPA chapter sponsor, Yvette Chavez, has played a pivotal role in their preparation, providing guidance and mentorship every step of the way. “Ms. Chavez has been incredibly supportive and has helped us build confidence in our skills,” said Villarreal.

As they prepare for the BPA State Leadership Conference, the students are refining their projects and honing their skills, eager to take on competitors from across Texas. “We’re making adjustments to our website, updating our marketing materials, and ensuring our presentation is as strong as possible,” said Olivarez.
