Mexico has received 38,065 returnees since Trump took office

Mexico City (EFE) – The Mexican government has received 38,065 Mexicans deported by the United States since President Donald Trump’s proclamation on January 20. They have been welcomed through the “Mexico Embraces You” program, said Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez.
Rodríguez noted that the objective of this program is to receive and address the needs of Mexicans who are repatriated to the country, but also to “guarantee and respect the exercise of their human rights.”
The official added that support has been offered through 34 federal government agencies, including medical and psychological care; and 20,500 people have been registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) on an extraordinary basis for humanitarian reasons and in solidarity with the repatriated individuals.
He also said that more than 93,000 people have received the “Paisano Welfare Card” with 2,000 pesos (about $102) for their travel expenses to their places of origin.
The country is concerned about the mass deportations promised by Trump because Mexicans make up nearly half of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States, and their remittances represent nearly 4% of Mexico’s gross domestic product (GDP), which will receive a record $65 billion in 2024.
Faced with pressure from the United States, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has argued that the arrival of irregular migrants at the US border “is at its lowest level in recent history.”
In addition, Mexico deployed 10,000 National Guard troops to the border with the United States to combat drug and migrant trafficking, following an agreement with Trump to pause tariffs, while operations are underway on the southern border to control undocumented immigrants.
