Men’s Soccer Falls at Seattle U

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s soccer team fell 3-1 to the Seattle University Redhawks on Thursday at Championship Field.

The Vaqueros (4-7-4, 2-3-3 WAC) and Redhawks (9-4-3, 6-1-1 WAC) battled through a constant rain from the very first kick. It was Seattle U who came out and took control of the match early on as Mo Mohamed scored in 2nd minute giving them the 1-0 lead.

The Redhawks added another goal in the 15th minute as Andre Philibbosian scored to make it 2-0.

The Vaqueros defense settled down the rest of the first half as sophomore Fernando Carreon made four saves in the half.

Seattle U added another goal quickly in the second half as Richy Lapointe-Guevara scored in 47th minute to make it 3-0 Redhawks.

The Vaqueros had some fight in them as senior Jason Robles scored his third goal of the season in the 21st minute but the Redhawks kept them at bay the rest of the way.

Carreon finished the night with six saves.

The Redhawks outshot the Vaqueros 22 to 7 and 9 to 2 on goal.

The Vaqueros will close out the regular season on Sunday when they visit the San Jose State Spartans at 3 p.m.
