The closures by the McAllen Parks & Recreation and Traffic Operations departments are to ensure the safety of all participants and attendees to the day-long schedule of events happening throughout McAllen.

Starting at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, July 4, 2025, please note temporary traffic stops will be happening along surrounding streets of the 4K route. Thru traffic will be temporarily stopped to allow runners along the race route.  The race starts at Archer Park, 101 N. Main St. and heads north along Main St. to Pecan Blvd. Runners will then head south along 12th St., back to Archer Park, before the Patriotic Program, which begins at 8:00 a.m.  See attached map.

Beginning at 6:30 a.m., the I-2 Overpass at Main St. will be fully closed in both directions in preparation for the Main Street Parade. The overpass will reopen on the same day at 9:30 a.m.  Motorists are encouraged to allow additional travel time or to find alternate routes to avoid congestion in the area.  Additionally, Main Street, from Jackson Avenue to Cedar will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the parade.

For those heading to the parade, seating is free along the parade route, with bleacher seating available on a first come, first serve basis.  Chairs, picnics and pets on a leash are also welcome; no open flames are allowed. The parade steps off at 9:00 a.m. from McAllen City Hall at Houston Avenue and Main St.

Festivities continue at Freedom Festival at Archer Park until 2:00 p.m. and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., cool off at the Aquatic Extravaganza at Municipal Pool, located at 1921 N. Bicentennial Blvd. Entrance fee for the pool is $2.50 per person. Limited parking at the pool is available due to preparations for the evening’s festivities.

The day concludes with a fireworks and fun at Municipal Park, beginning at 6:00 p.m., with live music and food vendors. Attendees can bring picnic and lawn chair set-ups to enjoy all the fun, starting with local bands Desert Bloom from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.; Texas Storm from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; and capped off by the H-E-B Concert in the Sky Fireworks Extravaganza at 9:00 p.m. Tune in to 710-AM KURV to enjoy the fireworks set to patriotic music.
