McAllen Public Utility and IMAS Host World Water Day Celebration

McAllen, TX – McAllen Public Utility (MPU) and the International Museum of Art and Science (IMAS) are thrilled to announce their collaboration in hosting a World Water Day celebration at IMAS. The event, titled “World Water Day – Water for Peace,” will be on Saturday, March 23, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the museum in McAllen, Texas, with free admission supported by MPU.

World Water Day is an annual United Nations Observance held internationally in late-March, focusing on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. MPU and IMAS have joined hands to honor this global initiative by organizing a community event aimed at raising awareness about the significance of water conservation and the challenges faced by communities without access to safe water.

The celebration at IMAS will feature a variety of engaging activities, including hands-on learning demonstrations, presentations, an activity by Mission Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) F.A.R.M.E.R.S. (Farmers, Agriculturists, Ranchers, Machinists, Engineers, Researchers, Suppliers) in the Industrial Lab, Science On a Sphere presentations, Natural Expressions Curator Talk by Mary Nettie Rodriguez, and lectures from UTRGV Assistant Professor, Dr. Jongsun Kim and Assistant Professor of Practice Dr. Myung Hwangbo. Visitors will explore the importance of water conservation in the community and discover resources available throughout the Rio Grande Valley (RGV).

Since its inception in 1993, World Water Day has served as a platform to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources and to inspire action to address the global water crisis. By coming together to celebrate World Water Day, MPU and IMAS aim to foster a deeper understanding of the value of water and promote a more sustainable and peaceful world.

“We are delighted to collaborate with MPU to celebrate World Water Day at IMAS,” said Roni Cortez, Education Director at the International Museum of Art and Science. “Through interactive activities and educational presentations, we hope to inspire individuals to take action towards water conservation and contribute to building a more sustainable future for all.”

The World Water Day celebration at IMAS promises to be an informative and engaging experience for attendees of all ages. Admission to the event is free, and all members of the community are encouraged to participate.
