McAllen Public Library Invites Youth to Participate in 2025 South Texas Book Festival Creative Contests

Now Accepting Entries for Art, Poetry, and Short Story Competitions

McALLEN, TX – The McAllen Public Library proudly announces the opening of the Youth Creative Contests for the 2025 South Texas Book Festival (STBF), inviting students across the Rio Grande Valley to showcase their talent and imagination in this year’s Art, Poetry, and Short Story contests.

The STBF is one of the region’s largest literary celebrations, and the youth contests are a cornerstone of the festival’s commitment to engaging and inspiring young voices in our community.

Contest Details:

  • Open To: Students in grades K–12

  • Entry Categories:

    • Art Contest (Grades K–12)

    • Poetry Contest (Grades 3–12)

    • Short Story Contest (Grades 3–12)

  • Entry Deadline: Friday, September 20, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. CST

  • Submission: All entries must be submitted online through the contest portal:

Winners in each age group and category will be recognized during the South Texas Book Festival, scheduled for November 2025, and will receive certificates and prizes. Selected entries may also be showcased online or during the festival.

The Youth Creative Contests aim to encourage literary and artistic creativity, promote self-expression, and provide students with a platform to be celebrated by their peers, families, and the community.
