McAllen Public Library Invites Families to Summer Reading Challenge Kick-Off Party

McAllen Public Library (MPL) is throwing a party to kick off this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, and everyone is invited. Head to Main Library on Saturday, June 7, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., for a fun-filled afternoon with activities, free hotdogs and giveaways while supplies last. Community partners will be on-site with activities for the whole family, and do not miss a special appearance by MPL’s mascot, Marty the Library Cat.
While there, sign up for the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge, themed “Color Your World!” This free six-week program is open to all ages—from kids to adults—and includes chances to win prizes just for reading. Complete the challenge and earn an invitation to the exclusive Finale Party celebrating those accomplishments. The program runs from June 1 to July 13.
“The Summer Reading Challenge is one of our favorite traditions at the Library,” said Kate Horan, Library Director. “It’s a great way for families to connect, explore new books, and have some fun together over the summer. We’re always excited to see the community come out and be part of it.”
